I am not particularly happy with the new Indian Rupee Symbol. I just don’t understand the logic behind this choice. Good for Udayan Kumar who is a fellow IDCian, but more transparency and public debate in choosing the finalists could have given a more acceptable symbol.

Welcome to India
I arrived in Mumbai last night. The moment I stepped onto the aerobridge, I sensed a faint but unmistakable smell I find almost universally in this metropolis – pee. Unfortunate but true – we were greeted with smells of pee and moldy carpets and poorly lit corridors.
So much for India’s world class airports being shown off by our ministers.

SFO airport security checks
At SFO airport, there is a long queue for security checks – as long as in India. But the process is much worse than India. I won’t go into it for brevity, but at the end of this check, one has to almost repack and dress up once again. The motto here seems to be “guilty unless proved innocent”.

Ads on the American television
My last day in US. I am watching television. I notice that 90% of ads on television are one of these categories – food (fast-food and pet-food), Insurance, Medical and Auto – and quite unimaginative too, compared to what we see in India.
Do the type of ads on television reflect a society’s preoccupation? Or shall I say the socio-economic condition? Are these good metrics among others to see where a nation is going?
